Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day was over two months ago. Was Punxsutawney Phil's prediction correct?

Last year I wanted to make this craft from Almost Unschoolers, but never got to it. We did make it this year. One side says, "Spring is Coming." The side with the shadow says, "Six More Weeks of Winter."

Both Punxsutawney Phil & the less famous Mayzie, a hedgehog from the Oregon Zoo, saw their shadows predicting 6 more weeks of winter.

Were they correct?

I'd say, for our area, no. It was cold & snowy the week of Groundhog Day, but we didn't get much winter weather after that.

Each year we read the book, Groundhog Day! I like it because it tells the story of how Groundhog Day came to be & also describes groundhogs & their hibernating behaviors.

Mr. T used a page from Scholastic's Monthly Idea Book to write a story about a groundhog.

Capt. N completed a word search from the Idea Book, then wrote a couple paragraphs describing Punxsutawney Phil.

Short & sweet Groundhog Day activities.
