Week 29

Pics from the Week:

This week, to describe Capt. N, I added the word helpful to our spider web.
Capt. N got 9 new vocabulary words, 2 new comprehension questions & 1 new fluency sentence this week. The Charlotte's Web guide suggests using these sentences as a sequencing activity. I've decided to use them to work on his fluency.

We "traveled" to the Amazon Rainforest in South America this week. We used our globe & a piece of string to measure the approximate distance from our starting point.
Capt. N made this collage of a rainforest.
He also did a short report on toucans using the report wheel from Enchanted Learning.

To go along with learning about rainforests, Monday we went to the Oregon Zoo to check out their Amazon Flooded Forest exhibit.
The World Forestry Center is located right next to the zoo, so we made a quick trip there, too.

Friday, we had a few hours to spare. We could have drove back home, but I hate leaving again once we get home. So I asked the kids if they wanted to go back to the Tillamook Forest Center since I had never been there. Of course they wanted to go. We went & had a great time.
Later that day, we went to the theater to watch the new movie Chimpanzee by Disney nature. It was a perfect way to end our mini unit on the rainforest - even though the movie is based in an African rainforest as opposed to the Amazon.
